THEY ARE DYING OUT
is often presented and thought of as a critique of capitalism – Handke, during the time of the New Left, gives his various businessmen all kinds of left views, that makes these views suspect, Quitt the Mogul beats them all, the intimations of a phoenix-like Neo-Liberalism, if you will, are unmistakable, tied to matters Handke had observed from close-up in the behavior of his would-be monopolist publisher Siegfried Unseld. INNONCENT, too, cotains a bit but far less immediate contemporariness than THEY ARE DYING OUT. Yes, it has the INNOCENTS besotted by their I-phones but not much else. Many reviewers point out that the play has no refugees on this street.
